We now have stock of the New MCD Front Axle for CVD 2012 with O clip FT Grade
these are the factory team grade of axles which are the stongest available.
These will also help with more steering on the car

Order placed and fingers crossed hopefully here for the weekend :D :D
-
Have to say.... I wont be rushing out to get these, mostly because i have never had a problem with the pin coming out on the CVD's.... if anything i've always had a problem getting the pins out due to the amount of red threadlock i always put in them :D :D
-
Not sure how these would give more steering as there are stops on the steering hubs ;) may be you could cut them of
I also will not be buying them as my mod with the nylon sleeve works a treat!

right arrowMCD New CVD Axles Comparison - NEW Vs OLD
We have put together this post to let you all see the differences between the new and old V4 CVD system. The picture below clearly shows the increased operating angle-
(http://www.rossmod.co.uk/images/rossmod/NEWCVD.jpg)
To get the best out of the new system you will need to dremel a small amount of material from your existing CVD Dogbone. Shown below -
(http://www.rossmod.co.uk/images/rossmod/NEWCVD_1.jpg)
Please note that the new CVD axle fits dirctly onto your existing driveshaft with no modification required, but due to the increased operating angle it is best if you gently relieve the driveshaft slot in the areas shown above.
This picture shows the difference in pin angle once the drive shaft is modified -
(http://www.rossmod.co.uk/images/rossmod/NEWCVD_3.jpg)
Finally, you can see the improvement in the design of the axle here -
(http://www.rossmod.co.uk/images/rossmod/NEWCVD_2.jpg)
The improvements offer much tighter low speed steering, smooth operation (due to the drive shaft being able to float on the pin) and much improved strength.
Hope this helps,
Team RossMod.
-
Great pics! Thanks for sharing :good:
Really does show the improvements.
-
Do you sell them in a pre modified set?
-
The Majority of the Factory team parts won't be widely on the shelf until early next year , a lot of parts
were tested in the german races this year , constant modifications are also on the go with bits ,so you can
experiment alongside or hang on a bit for the refined version of whatever . ;)
-
Cool improvements. I will buy some cups soon
I think moding the dogbones like this + new axle can give even more working angle
(http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n586/Maxdor/V4/P1100258-1.jpg)
I run my standard cups with this dogbones for about 8 mounth. Everything is ok
-
Hi All,
Simply fitting the new production axles improves the strength and steering response no end.
You can just buy the new drive shafts as well, but as it is such a simple modification we thought it would help you all to save some money by using your original shafts.
The new factory team parts are fully developed and tested components and are only put on sale once the development work is finished and MCD are happy with the results :D
-
Thanks for the info , and I hope you are right , Lets see , now where is a good aussie basher when you need one
-
RossMod would like to offer a free modification service.
If you purchase the new axles from ourselves and send us the old shafts we will modify them and fit the axles at no extra cost.
We understand that some of you may not want to grind the driveshafts and so we have decided to do it for you. That way you don't need to buy new driveshafts to get the best out of this new CVD axle.
Hope this helps :D
-
  Not sure about good ozzy bashers but we're racing at sweetnap this weekend and Mr archer and myself are both running the new axles.
Mine are going under the dremel in an hour or so 8)
-
Thanks for the info , and I hope you are right , Lets see , now where is a good aussie basher when you need one
  I'm sticking with my Mk2 axles for now, guess you might call these new ones a Mk3 version, even still have some warranty spares... so just cant justify spending the money on this just yet.
-
I seam to break the axle cups quite often, I guessing with the increased movement they won't hit the shaft causing them to break in a rollover and excess pressure being placed on the front wheel? Isn't this the reason why some of us have been putting tube over the steering stops on the arms to help this? ???
-
The point of this upgrade is extra steering for racers on tight Infield track sections ,yes I am sure
it will help the breakages angle ,and with a free pin ,sort of floating give more flexbuility as well,
and harder material in the Factory team version ;)
-
I have just installed a pair of the new axles, thanks to Stevo and Rik at Ross Mods for the tips and help. The new Factory Team axles are top quality and they are only slightly more expensive than the non Factory Team version.
Machining the end of the driveshaft is fairly straight forward and only requires a minimal amount of material to be removed to get the full articulation and rotate smoothly.
There is a noticable increase in the steering lock and more to come if I file (or dremel) away a tiny amount of the wishbone where the steering stop meets it.
Unfortunately the weather here isn't ideal for testing the new set-up, hopefully it will dry up sufficiently before the end of the week.

Sorry :good:
Don't be sorry it's Xmas ,was talking to Stevo about Engines , told him I still got the best one he built ,
and no he can't have it back , and ordered the axles ,      Mike.
-
I finally got to test the new axles today..what a difference!!!!
I have been using the original unmodified CVDs on my V4 for 18 months with fuel tubing over the steering stops to reduce the risk of a breakage and the low speed steering with LSDs has been generally ok.
The steering has been transformed with the new axles, the low speed turning circle has reduced significantly and there is less understeer in the high speed turns.
I look forward to the local motocross opening again and trying the car out on a dry dusty surface...

Do you think there is enough room to fit drive shaft gaters Harry? It does look like there is ;)
-
Yes I would say so just need the right length bottom bolt ,just ordered some from elcon ;)
-
Hoping to order a set of front hubs in the next few weeks ;) ;) They do look great!!
I'll feel alot happier with boots protecting the CVD's 8)
-
Are elcon boots about the best ones to use? and do they
fit all the drive cups? I should get a set of the new front axels tomorrow all being well with the post ;)
-
Elcon work for me nice and tight fitting so no need to use cable ties

Sorry for dredging up an old thread, but just wondering are these in fact any stronger than the original ones ??
Only asking because i was just looking at my RRV4 and noticed that i smashed not one but two CVD's in one race, the final on the weekend. The first one was completely shattered to bits and the new one that i replaced it with now has a chunk missing from it.... cannot believe it, that's two in one race.
So that's what bring me to the above question... i still have 2 more spares of the old ones, so do i smash them first or just get the new ones ??
-
Franco , depends what you think broke the others ?? not enough lock pressure on the pin ??or
cup ?? or pure pounding ,or perhaps just not strong enough ,there is no doubt however whatever
the reason ,extra lock ,a floating pin and Vanadium quality ,might be a one off purchase ,and
a Pram beating way of life
-
one off purchase definately NOT! i had one of the new drive cups crack exactly the same place as the older version. cracked from the outer edge going to one of the holes. are they stronger/better than the original ones definately YES.
we should all know by now the is no such thing as unbreakable when it comes to rc car racing/bashing
-
I did say might    of course Franco is a pretty good driver :P :P :P :P might be
the size of the Fosters Gold rocks
-
Well i'm a half decent driver  But i know i'm not the best... both the two mk2 CVD's were smashed mostly because from bad landing / cartwheeling off the jump, don't think i had any collisions that i can remember.
Anyway, got a set now and just got to do that grinding thing on the driveshaft end of the CVD... but also just wondering if you guys actually use a set screw on them or not ?? I can see that it's really not necessary but just thought i'd ask anyway.
-
I don't no point really!
-
No Let them float a bit ;)
-
Ok thanks, didn't really think it would be necessary either.
Been having to clean the barrel up a bit, all jammed up and wouldn't move freely very well at all.
-
I used brake cleaning fluid :D :D then coated all the parts with 3 in 1 silicone lube.. :D :D
