I like  :D   the screws could do with being high tensile torx, half pan head much easier to work with
when using threadlock which you need to do,plus side looks great and added strength, minus side
more weight and more difficult to strip and clean time wise, very good though even the red finish
would look good against the dark plastic  :D

do you have plans for any other parts?
Title: Re: v4 aluminum parts
Post by: joferusa on October 29, 2010, 11:58:41 AM
mcdmt, at this moment no, the problem with mcd parts is very slow market, setup a machines for more large production (have more competitive price to costumers) is a problem.
i'm make some parts for me, like shock towers, wheel hubs, tanks holders, but not for production,(see the post of pics MCD 3 1/2 RED DOG)
maybe next year we make some other parts
Title: Re: v4 aluminum parts
Post by: BeatsMe on October 29, 2010, 01:04:34 PM
Jofer, It's a real shame... because i would love to get an alloy gear carrier if you were to make it, and i'd be keen to get a set of alloy front hubs.

Seems the 2 different finishes are the same price and look good value  :D :D got one on the way to have a look at  ;)
I will need to modify it a bit to fit the mcd carrier I already have fitted, but the Idea is to stop the chassis flex at the front
where I have bent 2 chassis ( only slightly ) with a crash and a Noser
Title: Re: v4 aluminum parts

Do you loose the ability of getting the servotray out without unscrewing half the chassis or does it stay the same?

Seems the American tracking service is Rubbish only one entry from the 11th asked for e mail updates nothing
just hope the parcel is better than the system at moving ::) ::)
Title: Re: v4 aluminum parts
Post by: BeatsMe on December 17, 2010, 09:44:53 AM
Totally agree... the tracking is just useless info, you'll get the package and there will be no update.  Also, while i'm at it... It used to take upto 2 weeks to get a package from USPS and now it seems to be taking 4 weeks  >:(

No Idea as the tracking is useless, but even if the parcel hits the uk the couriers and our post system are overloaded
with xmas stuff plus we have very cold weather with snow and Ice  :o :o a bit frustrating perhaps I should have waited
till the new year, but hey then it would be even longer  you just never know fingers crossed  :D
Title: Re: v4 aluminum parts
Post by: harryhackenbacker on December 24, 2010, 03:50:57 AM
Turns out the service is much better than the tracking as the parts arrived today approx 2 weeks which is not bad with
the time of year and weather etc... had to pay customs £21.37 so total cost uk £120 priority mail payed.
The parts are very good, well finished and extremely light  :D :D  Nice one Joferusa  ;) ;) I will get them fitted soon it's
just too cold right now for the garage

Did a strip down on the V4 today as it is so hot here in England  1 deg c  >:(  remembered what a tool box was, put some heaters
on 500 watt spots, all my chargers on and closed the door HEAVEN  after Icy hell  Anyway was having a look at the tray fitting
and these bits really are superbly made  :D  Need to do a lot of cleaning after winter runs in wet/mud /Ice but could not resist a bit
of a test fit. Because of my mcd alloy carrier the brake plate is too long (where it screws to the carrier) and the carrier has a shape
machined in it where the pointy bit sits ,well didn't want to machine the new alloy bits so cut a slot out of the carrier,so it sits
accross, just need to enlarge the hole a bit  :) Don't mind taking stuff to bits  ;) dont mind tinkering it's all the cleaning ready for
new bits  :D mind you it was well clogged up :)
Title: Re: v4 aluminum parts

harry
1deg??jesus i'm feel like a Penguin when i read that
what alloy carrier do you have? mcd or vertigo?
if you use those (is for evo 3) you have to use my brake plate for evo 3, the v4 plastic carrier is little longer and the hole distance.
the jofer for evo 3 fit inside of the pocket mcd alloy, plastic carrier or vertigo.
i think i have an extra brake plate for the evo 3 (have to check if black or raw)if you want to change in the future i'ma send you one
cheers 8)

Well it has warmed up so got going with the job,as my carrier is not a direct fit on the V4 with the new parts as well I have
cut a slot out of the carrier  :)  jo kindly offered me an evo 3 to fit but that is a while away so I will see  :D
The MCD  carrier in the pics is a mk 1 and been on 3 buggies now so gave it a treat and very good clean, looks great one of the
most expensive alloy bits on Earth  but certainly after a couple of years and monumental stick One blown bearing only
aand some alloy polish, makes for the best trasmission and heat sink and solid engine mounting .
From past experience get the tranny all perfect and in line ./shimmed etc... makes for a really free and efficient drive train.
so will get it just so  :D

Mike, do you cut the carrier , when send you the evo 3brake plate, the hole go to align, but the parts look short now ??? if i'm know that before i'm recommended just cut my part and live the carrier original pocket, when i'm send you the evo 3 parts trow away the other part.
well is done... :o
Title: Re: v4 aluminum parts
Post by: harryhackenbacker on December 31, 2010, 05:40:43 PM
I had Already cut thee carrier before I knew about the Evo 3 part  ::) so will have to see how it works  It's only
the hole  (which I have enlarged ) that was a bit out .As you say the evo 3 one will be a touch short now,but either way
it will be ok,the Ideal solution now would be a V4 brake plate but with the hole set back in the evo 3 position.then it would
be a solid fit and not look short  ;)
Title: Re: v4 aluminum parts
Post by: joferusa on January 01, 2011, 03:56:24 AM
yes mike i also thought of that yesterday this the perfect solution a v4 plate with evo 3 hole position, just give me  some time , try to make special v4plate for you, work and look perfect in you set up
happy new year

look very good mike, like red servos pop up with black...
you have to put front diff case, front steering plate mount directly to that part. and them you have to use the ss washer come with   the kit (2 set different thickness)and shimmed between the steering plate and the servo plate
car look to clean, need some dirt mike :D
Title: Re: v4 aluminum parts
Post by: harryhackenbacker on January 02, 2011, 08:00:06 AM
So to level it you use the height of the diff then adjust it with washers between the plates  don't want anything pulling
out of line  :D  and the steering screws (machine ones ) need nuts on I presume  ;)
Title: Re: v4 aluminum parts
Post by: joferusa on January 02, 2011, 10:12:30 AM
yes, put the nut diff case, screw in steering post, then use the washer and put the screw connect the steering plate and servo plate
Title: Re: v4 aluminum parts
Post by: harryhackenbacker on January 06, 2011, 03:57:42 AM
Well all done  :D :D  Looks good, had a Quick blast the steering feels better a lot more solid still flex in the plastic steering
parts put 100% better  :beach:  Just need the rear tank plate and perhaps the front cnc lower diff case and thats it PERFECT  :) :)

Good work Mike, it's looking very good... i sometimes feel that the plastic servo saver parts are letting the steering down a bit, would be nice to at least get the top half replaced in alloy.

Jofer,  Will you take care of me too    8)

Agree on the servo saver parts  :D those parking cone shaped jobs do flex  but geberally big Improvememnt the uk wks
cars had some beefed up plastic ones with more fibre in the mix ( plastic to Wheatabix mixture   )  but when you do
that they can be more brittle. :D

Yes the cone part, that's it, i was just outside running the RRV4 and i noticed that it's actually the bottom part (not the top)...

I don't have any Jofa USA up-grade parts for my MCD (Yet) but I do have the Jofa USA shock parts on my Baja 5T in red and sliver and I must say they are the best finished, nicest looking parts I have on it and my Baja is built using up-grade parts from the ground up. The quality is top shelf IMO  ;).

Luv ya work Joe and I can't wait to get the Jofa USA MCD upgrades once PSR gets them in stock  8).

Joe ,the service puts us brits to shame at times, not fitted it yet ,just running in a new engine ,so will drop it out later this week
for some clutch adjustment and fit then ,looks perfect though .
Besides the rear tank brace, which I know you have planned, now the servos are sitting solid and rigid, the steering is loosing
some lock due to flexing of the tall hollow parts that the linkages attach to,any thoughts  :) :)  even an internal alloy brace
would be a goof fix, that the long screw drops down into   Mike ;)

So would we need this with the "023101A0 - V4 Alloy Engine Carrier Plate"?
Title: Re: v4 aluminum parts
Post by: harryhackenbacker on February 06, 2011, 07:36:10 PM
The mcd carrier I am using is a mk1 ,I think the mk2 is the same there is a cut out where the brake plate drops in .this means the std
Jofer one is to long and  the hole is out (hence the second one ) but you still have to mod the carrier so it's a v4 plate with an evo 3
hole  :)

Some pictures of the x4 brake plate dropped over the V4 plastic plate (mainly for Joe ) and fitted to am Ultimate part number carrier
on my x4 Rally .  I am presuming that any new hop up carriers that leave the factory will suit the "4 series from now on " but who knows
in the meantime you have to use V4 Plastic parts for an alloy carrier ,or if you have ditched the enclosed centre diff holder for alloy ones
then want to do Jofer trays he is going to figure it out soon .

thanks for the pics mike
tomorrow i hope that i finish the x4 alloy parts, and post some pics, the alloy engine carrier.., well it is a problem, v4 and x4 suppose to be the  same chassis and engine carrier, but the v4 brake plate doesn't fit (in the pocket and hole alignment),its a little confusing part, i believe  mcd is coming out with a part that really will fit V4 and X4 brake plates in the future .(so we have to wait for that to happen before i start to play with a special part brake plate evo3/v4 combination )

Joe,no Problem,I think I follow  ;) you need to see a new type Alloy carrier and how the X4 and V4 brake plate fits ,In the meantime
anyone running an Ultimate part number carrier will need to modify it .
I will see what the std set up is you have done ,and if I may suggest options for any other mods people have done  :D  Thanks Mike :)

Spoke to Joe yesterday,he has done a tray set for the X 4  that works with the new centre diff set up holder and will post pics soon,
It looks good  :D :D.
He is also looking at the tank tray and steering cones over the next few weeks , the rear tray would be very expensive made from one
piece of 7075 and if the engine mount piece got broken an expensive replacement . So the other option is a three piece design which
is cheaper to produce and if need be for maintanance  :D
What he says does the customer want first the tray or the steering cones ????? well feedback please guys  ;) ;)

Personally I think you should make the things that MCD have not as yet released... definitely the steering cones, and i would also like to see some alloy front hubs.... and i still think that an alloy roll cage support would be a good idea.

Recieved my Latest alloy trays today ,thanks to Joe , for doing me some specials to fit my modded rally drive line ,and thought I would be
different to go red, they look Superb !!!! :D :D :D and tie in with the red head engine and Rhino red servos   .
Trouble is need a maintanance check over and clean first before fitting ,so engine and trays out ,sort it tommorow .
King Cobra have a set and are looking into supplying them as well for uk and europe dealers ,so if you are interested let them or me know  ;) ;)

Half way through fitting now ,few Issues ,making sure the transmission is running perfect, you always get slight Quirbles swopping
trays around ,It's looking Awsome ,pics when done  ;)

Well fiished the trays today on the rally ,these are specials for use with the alloy carrier and alloy bearing holders ,basically a v4 set
in red with an EVO 3 brake plate to carrier hole position .As usual spot on fitting and superb quality, the only change I made was using
Elcon HT torx screws .  If you have a rally with std carrier and enclosed centre diff ,there is a set to fit that ,straight fit .

Matt I junked the plastic enclosed centre diff holder ,the alloy holders are stronger ,more adjustable ,and offer a heat sink for Hot
bearings ,some times the old systems are best ,I am sure the plastic one is just a commercial thing ,cheaper to produce and faster to
fit in assembly  ;) ;)

Dave ,the only trays I have seen are for the bigger servos ,do you run a smaller throttle/brake servo ?? or all three ,be worth doing
to Improve the steering  ;) and just use one platic size reducer or fabricate one ,or even PM jofer himself  ;) ;) :) :)
Title: Re: v4 aluminum parts
Post by: Rover Man on June 04, 2011, 04:02:23 AM
Use standard size servo's all round. Bigger isnt always better  ;)

And using the plastic adapptors means i may as well keep the plastic tray.

The only thing i thought is to make some size reducers out of carbon but would rather have the alloy tray
with standard size servo holes.

Cheers you too  :)  one more part needed a tray for the top of the tank to replace the plastic one and make a solid link
from the engine bolt to the rear tower, perhaps Pink

What is status on this part? Is is out in the shops by now?

Last time I spoke to Jofer ,he said it would need to be made  in 3 parts to keep the cost down ,perhaps an updated Ultimate tank
supports system would be the answer ,but unless he has wholesale demand ,it won't happen . ;)
Title: Re: v4 aluminum parts
Post by: BeatsMe on July 11, 2011, 03:23:47 PM
The demand is low and the unit cost will be high because no one would be willing to make a minimum of 1000 at a time.

Ayaz
good news you received your parts as quickly, honestly goes luck with USPS
sometimes it takes 1 week, sometimes two
other countries such as Russia apparently takes more, supposedly USPS site says the same time, but ...
I'm glad that you get this all right
thank you
