With various rear diff failures and fixes ,alloy half and full cases I have been campaigning our suppliers
and friends for ages to get a prototype made .
The plastic rear tray I feel is a missing chink in the V4 FLEX ARMOUR :D :D the screws pull out of the
tray lugs and the engine bracket just disintergrates !!!!. I think I have replaced 6-7 of them .
So I am pleased to Say Joe from Jofer USA has now made a prototype ,after me nagging him to death !!
I have seen early pics ,very nice ,very clever , to keep costs sensible . He hopes to finish it within a week
and hopefully I can test one and he will post pics ,but only when he is happy ,I'd fit it now ,but perhaps
thats why his product is so good , we are lucky to have him on board . 8) 8) 8) 8)
-
Well done Mike and Joe. Can't wait to test one too ;) ;)
-
Another cool upgrade from Jofer.
-
I'd be keen to see the pictures ???

I'd be keen to see the pictures ???
Not finished yet ,even sent them to me encrypted . No point jumping the gun though ;) ;) ;)
-
Here are a couple of PROTOTYPE Pics ,the very first " hand made clay model version but in alloy "
Joe asked me to point out this , and the design is being modified looks and weight wise ,so not a finished
look as yet . Looks good to me :D :D got my vote on passed reputation alone ;) ;) :D :D

Looks great. These will sell like hot cakes.
-
Sorry guys, I have not had time to put pictures, very busy here, next Monday or Tuesday will show photos of the final product
I can tell, it produces quite a difference in the car stiffness
-
Very nice , that will complete my car . Excited about this one.
-
Great looking design Joe, like it very much.... I'll be needing at least two :good:
-
I can tell, it produces quite a difference in the car stiffness
how do you tell the diffrence? do you test bend the chassi?
-
Very nice :D I imagine the cost is going to be High due to the thickness of the billet alloy you have to start with. :D
But well worth it.  What one what one what one :D
One question would it be over kill if there was not one but two fixture points between the tray and engine-gear plate?
Thanks Joe for the hard work its Very much Appreciated :) :) :)
Regards Simon.
-
Looks like it's a three piece design, so the main part looks to be only about 5mm thick.
-
First ,the flex test , remove the two rear roll cage bars ,the height/weight of the rear tower even when
bolted with an mcd 7075 lower diff case (in other words double bolted to the chassis ) makes the thin
rear end of the chassis flex a lot , the current plastic tray pushes the tower back on the lugs , and the roll
cage bars ,pull it forward ,but with the roll cage it's far from super solid .
So the Alloy tray completes an upper deck thing to the inner tower ,then the suspension pins etc firm
up the rear .
Joe and I were talking about this for some time ,and he always said ,3 Piece is the way to go ,for two
reasons ,one cost ,and the other extreme damage ,would make it easier and cheaper to fix ,mind be
surprised if even and Aussie could do one in    All in all I think it's a major step in V4
progress and the fact his stuff looks cool as well ,It just doesn't get any better 8) 8) 8) 8)
-
In the Aussie Outback anything is possible.... could even hit a Kangaroo while driving my RRV4
-
nice bit of kit, i'll be very interested in one of these bad boys.
nice work Joe
-
ill be needing 2 of it when it starts to sale :)

that was one of my first ideas to increase the stiffness on the car. I’m trying to develop i way in to add a second post on the gear side. but i want to make it cost and design affective. too early to say i can’t promise anything yet.
-
Can't wait for these to hit the streets.
Thanks for taking the time to out them together for the MCD Owners, who are devoid of many after market tuning options.
Cheers :good:

-

K....
-
Design not finalised ,but the evo 3 Ultimate tower is a lot different and Intricate ,so I doubt it ,you
will have to see . :D
-
sorry for the delay, I have not had time to finish the sample , I kept playing with the weight/strength & cost and i tried to come with the best that i can, i had to change the design 4 times.
so give me a couple of days and put the photos of the finished product
-
No problem with the delay.... it's looking fantastic.
-
glad you like

MVX-350 Fuel Tank Tray for MCD V-4 and X-4
I need to find an online store that has this in stock, and can ship it to Egypt.. no paypal.......
-
TO: JoferUSA.
Would you design a sweet rigid chassis for the X4. You know, one of those that have the grooved channels in the bottom. The stock chassis does leave a lot to desire 8)
-
What do you mean by "grooved channels" ?? Are you talking about a lightweight chassis...

ok guys
here are some photos of the process and are now in the final stage
Now wait 30 hours in the bigger tumblers for final polish, and then anodized
after that ,the second operation, chamfers and engraving
-
Joe ,thanks for the Update on the manufacturing process ,I wonder how many people thought ,you did
a drawing ,pressed a button on a machine ,and it popped out the other end  a few I think ,
I must admit I had no Idea on the time scale ,nice job 8) 8)
-
Mike let me tell you, a lot of people have no idea of the hours that the process consumes
the disenio, measure, draw,
manufacture prototypes, modify,
Dispose of samples fabricated in aluminum,
sometimes R/D 2 to 3 working days
then prepare jigs to hold the pieces
cnc machines work alone after programming but before that there is a process
programs, which tools to use, how to hold the part and other variables to find the most efficient way
the polishing process before anodizing is a larger time-consuming
believe me, when you try to do something of good quality
takes time
but honestly I enjoy this as part of the hobby :D :D
-
Can we stay on topic guys please the steering thing is now under steering talk , if Joe takes the trouble to
post his work ,we don't want to bury it ;) ;) .
The Jofer web site has a suggestion box as well ,and if you want to test the water on something new start
a new thread ,all adds to the forum ,the more the better . :) :) :)

that ultimate build is insane, wish i had the money
Soren (prehn ) most of the recent purchases were funded by selling stuff , sold some shells ,wheels , and
a lot of plastic and used parts , sold my early 2 milled chassis which I was either not using or have updated,
even sold my original air filters that were with the rally and mk one V4 ,surprising how it all adds up ,worth
some trouble to do , and everyone is happy ,buyers and me the seller ;) ;) ;) ;)

Good point Joe !!! didn't have time to mention it Yesterday , I actually applied a little medium oil
resistant threadlock to all the the screws ,metal on metal ,but note when applying threadlock on
metal to metal applications best to use Torx high tensile screws ,much easier to get back out again .

Hoping mine will turn up this coming week :)
